Conveyancing on the crest of a wave

To discuss your residential property requirements, including requesting a conveyancing quote, please contact our Property Team by email, or call them on 01225 462871. You can also request a conveyancing quote online.

The last twelve months has been a long, hard slog for our fantastic residential property team. But it’s not quite over yet as they battle to complete conveyancing transactions for our clients wishing to take advantage of the Stamp Duty holiday before the end of June.

Against this background, one client presented us with a particular challenge. For most of us, if our bank requires original signed documents, it’s not an issue, even if there’s a tight deadline to meet. However, if you happen to be on board a yacht in the Indian Ocean, it can prove problematic!

Solicitor, Victoria Cranwell, said “This has certainly been an interesting one. Our client is not entirely out of contact, but he has a very limited phone and internet signal. When there have been brief windows of contact, we dropped everything to take advantage of them. Fortunately, he did dock briefly in an Indonesian port. While there, he was able to access a printer and arrange to meet briefly with a friend who, fortuitously, was in Indonesia and shortly due to fly back to England.”

There was also a need for our client to take independent legal advice on his borrowing, and we were able to arrange that via Zoom while he was at sea.

“I was hugely relieved when at last we were able to complete last Friday!” said Victoria.
