BLB launches new family mediation service

BLB has launched a Family Mediation Service at its Bath and Bristol offices.

The demand for mediation as a means of resolving disputes between separating couples is anticipated to increase following the introduction of rules on 22nd April 2014 under the Children and Families Act 2014 which mean that anyone setting out to contest the terms of their separation in court is first required to consider mediation.

Research shows that couples find mediation extremely useful in the early stages of separation in providing impartial information on the law and legal procedures.  Some of the other benefits of mediation are that it: enables couples to examine and explore the options open to them in a confidential setting; assists couples in making informed decisions; facilitates communication and cooperation; and is a cost-effective alternative to the court process.

BLB’s family mediator Sarah Jackson  is trained by Resolution, a member organisation of the Family Mediation Council, and is an Associate Solicitor in our Matrimonial and Family Department.
