Richard Lowes addresses British Pain Society’s conference

It was a huge pleasure to speak at the British Pain Society’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Glasgow last week, along with Dr Kevin Markham and Giles Kellner of DWF Solicitors in Liverpool.

The subject of our talks was, broadly, what the medical and legal professions should expect of each other in the context of obtaining expert evidence in claims involving chronic pain. Giles and I presented respectively from the Defendant and Claimant perspective, which sparked much debate in the room.

There was particular interest in the controversial area of the covert surveillance of claimants, which I have discussed in an earlier post.

There were many questions and I was delighted with the number of delegates who approached us afterwards to say that they had enjoyed the session.

The organisation of the conference was excellent and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) was a wonderful venue.
