Julian Dagger, a senior conveyancer based in our Trowbridge office, recently completed a marathon cycle ride from John O’Groats to Lands End. Julian was accompanied on the ride by his friend John, and by his wife Judith, also a BLB conveyancer, who provided car support throughout the entire journey.
As well as wanting to complete the ride as a personal challenge in his 50th year, Julian undertook the ride in memory of his Mum, who died of kidney failure in 2005, and also in memory of a great friend, Derek New, who was also a keen cyclist.
Julian and John, who were raising money for Kidney Research UK and the ITU unit in Bath’s Royal United Hospital, took 13.5 days to cycle the 935 miles. Julian said “”I loved every minute of it, despite sideways rain between Glasgow and Kilmarnock. The weather was (otherwise) superb, the scenery and views in the Highlands were quite amazing. The end of each day was always a high point, and saddle-sores were the only low point for me. We covered between 65 and 75 miles each day, spending between 6-8 hours in the saddle daily””.
Julian specifically wants to thank his wife Judith for her invaluable support throughout the whole journey. He said “”She is most deserving of a large part of the credit. I would also like to thank my other family, friends and BLB colleagues for their support and encouragement””.
Julian and John raised a total of approx £1200 for their chosen charities and BLB has decided to donate a further £250 in recognition of their amazing achievement. Managing Partner Stephen Bishop said “”This is a great achievement by Julian and John, not to mention Judith, and we were delighted to support them on what must have been a great adventure.””
